It is 40+ years since the publication of Images of Woman and the issue of the representation of women in the media is as pertinent as ever. Images was considered groundbreaking at the time for its detached and forensic approach to the way images could be analysed.  The research focused on display advertising in women’s magazines but the approach could be applied to the study of still images in any context.
